Westfield UTC
Objective
Westfield Corporation, an international retail property group, embarked on a major redevelopment of its University Towne Centre: an aging, one-million-square-foot, three-level open-air shopping center in San Diego’s University City neighborhood. Their goal was to create a public-facing design center that would communicate the transformation plans, educate the community, and invite input from residents and shoppers.
Westfield needed a creative agency that could deliver an integrated mix of environmental design, digital touchpoints, and marketing communications, all aimed at transparency and engagement.

The Solution
Barretto-Co. collaborated with Westfield to design and implement a comprehensive suite of experiences across print, digital, and physical spaces.
We developed a temporary on-site environment that functioned as an interactive design center. Through a combination of signage, advertising, print collateral, and a custom-built kiosk interface, visitors could explore redevelopment plans in real time and offer feedback. The goal was to make architectural and commercial plans understandable and visually engaging to a broad public audience.
In addition to environmental graphics and interactive tools, we designed a supporting website that extended the experience online, ensuring continuity across channels and increasing accessibility for the broader community.
The Solution
The initiative created a bridge between Westfield and the community, helping the corporation build trust, collect valuable feedback, and spark excitement around the redevelopment.
The campaign served as a model for how marketing communications and creative strategy can transform public perception and support major commercial projects.
